Postdoctoral Fellow, Zolberg Institute on Migration and Mobility, Zolberg Institute on Migration and Mobility

Diana Zacca Thomaz is a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Zolberg Institute on Migration and Mobility at The New School for Social Research. Her research explores how the problems of housing unaffordability and residential segregation shape the political belonging of racialized citizens and migrants living in cities. She analyzes how both groups can be displaced and constructed as “outsiders” in the cities where they live, and how they respond to their disenfranchisement and make claims to a different urban order. Diana’s first book project, entitled The Eviction Room: Migration and Citizenship in São Paulo’s Squats, analyzes the shared marginalization and the claims-making of both Brazilians and international migrants living together in squatted buildings (ocupações) in central São Paulo, Brazil. Her work has been featured in Migration Studies, Social and Legal Studies, and in Citizenship Studies, where she currently works as an assistant editor.
